Concise Description
Python implementation of GeoData: reads, time-registers, interpolates and plots geophysics data from radar and optical sensors such as incoherent-scatter radars and all-sky imagers.
Description
GeoDataPython is the Python implementation of GeoData, a package to plot and analyze data from geophysics sources such as radar and optical systems. It is built around a container class: each instance holds one sensor's data set together with the name of its coordinate system, an array of measurement locations, the sensor's own WGS84 location, and the start and end time of every measurement. Users bring a new data type in by supplying a read function, and readers are included for Madrigal HDF5 incoherent-scatter radar files, SRI-format Resolute Bay and Poker Flat ISR HDF5 files, OMTI optical airglow HDF5 files, Poker Flat all-sky FITS images with their azimuth/elevation calibration maps, Neo sCMOS camera HDF5 files, and Mahali GPS total-electron-content files. Once loaded, a data set can be interpolated or regridded into another coordinate system (WGS84, ECEF, east-north-up, local Cartesian, or radar range-azimuth-elevation), reduced in time or in location, time-registered against a second data set so that overlapping measurements can be compared, transformed parameter by parameter, and written out as a structured HDF5 file. The plotting routines produce two-dimensional slices and contours, greyscale-optical-plus-radar overlays on a common grid, range-versus-time and range-versus-parameter plots, radar beam-position polar plots, and three-dimensional slice renderings in either matplotlib or Mayavi.
